Hey guys. Today I’m going to show you how to swap out this standard digital thermostat for a Wi-Fi thermostat. So we can connect right to our phones. Let’s get started. So I have here a Honeywell t6 Pro Wi-Fi thermostat that I’m gonna swap out with my existing thermostat. Basically, in the box you have all your different directions and different languages. This is the wall mount for the unit. We’re not going to be using it. Really no need; we have a wall mount. I have the exact same unit. The difference is that this is a Wi-Fi unit so I’ll be able to connect my thermostat to the Wi-Fi system here. Thus allowing me to control the thermostat from my phone. So I could leave and still see what’s going on. I can lower the temperature or increase the temperature during the day, as I want. They give you an installation kit and they also give you this UWP that would snap into here. I have one there already so there’s really no reason for me to install this. You’ll see that when I get to the wall. That’s the back with all the pins. That’s what this unit would snap into here, if I was to use it, but I’m not so I’m all good. I just have to snap this unit. That’s the nice thing about buying the same type of of digital unit. Honeywell makes many different types of digital thermostats. So as long as you follow the same type you can get Wifi, non Wi-Fi, there are all kinds of different model numbers that you could get. So in this situation, I have the same unit up there it’s just not Wi-Fi enabled. This unit is. This has protective plastic on the glass so it doesn’t get scratched. I’m gonna remove that. Now we are going to get this installed. It does come with a Quick-Start Manual. Or you have the detailed manuals like this one here. All for this T6 Pro Wi-FI unit. It tells you how to program it and how to run it on your phone. There’s an app you download onto your phone. If you have Apple, go to Apple Store and download the app. Of course if you have Android, just go to the app store to get it. So I’m gonna move the camera over to the thermostat. Let’s remove the old one there and install the new one. Ok, so I have here the digital unit that was installed in the house. I’m gonna remove this now. Everything here is a push-button to make it work. The new unit I’m going to be installing is all touch screen. So I’m gonna pull this off. This typically just pulls right off the wall. You can grab it from the groove-and now it has fallen. That’s fine, no big deal. What I want to show you is that in the back of this unit… …this is the back of the unit of a standard digital thermostat. So once you pull it off the wall you’ll see the back has all the same connectors. Identical. The only difference with this unit is that it has no battery backup. It has an internal battery that’ll hold power for about an hour. So no worries with that. I’m gonna discard this manual unit… …and I’m going to install the new digital Wi-Fi pro series. Here you’ll see that this is where all the wires are connected. If you’re installing a new one, then you’ll have to follow the diagrams that are in the book. They indicate how to connect your wires. Now I’m gonna snap this in place. Now you can see power has gone to the unit. Now it’s initializing. Simple as that, you just push it on. So I went though some final setups on the app and I will tell you that in the app there are a lot of settings in there. There’s a lot to learn. If you’re a contractor you’ll understand what to answer there for your system. Each system is different from my system versus your system in your home. It all depends if you have an older system. I have a newer system in my home. So there are many different settings that you’ll have to go through in the app to set. Very, very interesting. Very in depth type of app for the settings, Energy Star settings, it just goes on. So you have a lot of homework to do, which is the point I’m stressing to you. So do your homework before actually installing the thermostat. Look into the different settings, see if your settings comply with that thermostat and that it’ll work. If you have one of these types of thermostats in place already and then you install a pro thermostat like I did, then it’s just a matter of all of it working out, with the different controls, inside the app. Those controls are pretty key to how your house cools and heats throughout the season. Alright guys, I just wanted to give you that additional information. Have a great day. If you like what you see here, please subscribe, share my videos, ask me questions in the comments.
