Hi, my name is Tim Chandler, Senior Project Manager on the Province House Conservation Project, Public Services and Procurement Canada. I was born in Charlottetown, PEI. I grew up in Stratford, which is just across the river from Province House. I’m responsible for the delivery of the project, responsible for acting as the departmental representative for PSPC. In 2014, Parks Canada approached us to do a more fulsome investigation with the building, understand its condition a bit more and plan the repairs. So those investigations lead us to realise that there was some significant work that needed to be done. The major issues with the building are common amongst a lot of buildings of this type. It’s water and time, you know, deteriorate some of the materials. What I like most right now is the flexibility that comes with the job, the variety, the learning. The team and myself are very proud of the work that we’re doing here to preserve such an important building. The building’s been around for 175 years but it’s not had a major intervention so we know that the work we’re doing here is going to preserve such an important piece of Canada’s history well into the future.
